My Introduction

Hello, I’m Raybob Coleman.
If I posted this in the wrong place let me know. I’m not great with Forums.
I figured I’d introduce myself. I raced SCCA A sedan and for years raced in NASA American Iron. The last full season in 2012 in NASA CMC
(Camaro Mustang Challenge)
I Sold my last 99 Camaro Z28 CMC car in 2020 +/-. I was gonna be done.
My buddy Billy Harding talked me back in to eventually do RMVR. I went to a Pueblo event and met a couple Big Bore guys and decided I’ll go for it.
Initially I was looking at AMC Javelins and a couple 70-73 Dodge Challengers. But as they say “Dance with who brung ya” I’ve always raced Camaros.
The Camaro project I have came across me for $800 buck so I grabbed it.
Anyways, I hope you Vintage guys will have me when the Camaro is ready for the track. Maybe next Summer.
I’ll start a build thread soon.
Thanks

@Raybob9289, welcome to the forum and RMVR! Unfortunately, not a lot of people interact in the forum, so don’t be surprised if you don’t see too many responses. It’s not you; it’s just the lack of people using the forum.

I wonder if we met at Pueblo? I was volunteering in April and had my Plymouth Barracuda on track for the first time at the June Friday test and tune and on the trailer Sat and Sun while I volunteered in hot-pit tech.

You’ll be a wonderful addition to our dwindling big-bore group, although I admit I have a softer spot for a third-generation Barracuda followed by a Javelin over a Camaro; Any race car is good in my book though :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:. Your old 1999 Z28 would now be eligible since we expanded to the 1994 SCCA GCR with a 1999 being a continuation car, but it’s good to see you getting back into racing.

If you ever want to go over eligibility questions or bounce build ideas off someone, feel free to email [email protected], which goes to me, and I’ll be happy to help. You’ll want to nail down which class you’ll race in before you get to deep into the build since those specs will guide the build (the 1970 Camaro will be eligible for Production, GT, or IMSA classes depending on the prep specs).

Yes, please start a build thread since a handful of us will be interested.

Will you be attending Race Against Kids’ Cancer at High Plains Raceway on Sept. 26/27? It’s our biggest race of the season, and there will be the most mid-bore and big-bore cars there.

Also, if you want the car on track next year, you’ll want to prepare to go through RMVR Driver’s School in May 2027 (dates unknown at this time) to get your provision competition license since we only run the school once a year. Any car regardless of year with an active logbook with any racing organization can be used for a student car if you can borrow or rent one, and we have people in RMVR who rent cars as well in the event the Camaro won’t be ready. I’m happy to chat more about the school or introduce you to our Chief Driving Instructor if you haven’t met him yet.

Best,

Justin says it all. Welcome. Not a lot of traffic on this forum, so don’t be put off by lack of respones.

Just to let you know that there are folks reading. Welcome! I race historic open wheel cars (in 45 minutes I go out on track in my 1960 Formula Junior at Watkins Glen), but I’ll be following your build thread with interest. Rich

Hey there Raybob, welcome to the fun! So happy to hear you’re interested in building a car for the club. While I don’t have a big-bore car, I always hold a special place for them. Looking forward to seeing your Camaro on the track!
