FV/Open Wheel fire system

I’ve been following this discussion with interest. I haven’t acquired a system yet but one point I wanted to bring up. The SFI SPECIFICATION 17.2 states

“2.7 Single Seat Open Wheel Rear Engine On Board Fire Suppression Systems shall be inspected for recertification at least every two years after the date of original certification or as specified by the certifying manufacturer.” (link to spec below).

While this requirement isn’t called out specifically in the RMVR rule seems to be implied. So the question I’m trying to get answered for myself is there are a lot of systems for sale, but no mention of recertification that I can find.

I was looking at the Lifeline system which states that their dealer network will service them, and Wine Country Motor Sports is listed that they will do “FIA only” service.

So I’m thinking that I need to call Wine Country and see what they will do on recertification as a place to start.

Anyone else looked into this?

SFI Spec 17.2

Hi Frank @frankj, your question is one that was on my mind as well. The way the new RMVR rule is written, if the manufacturer’s installation or maintenance instructions specifically either mandate recertification or say to follow the SFI/FIA protocol, we will, therefore, have to recertify since the RMVR rule says to follow the manufacturer’s installation and maintenance instructions. This is SCCA’s language as well. Both SFI and FIA require recertification every two years with the SFI bottle no longer being eligible for recertification after 6 years and the FIA bottle after 10.

I spoke with Jon Whitely (@jonUU) when exploring my own options, and he says Wine Country quotes around $150 to recertify their Lifeline Zero 360 2.25kg FIA system, which he runs. You’ll want to get a quote for yourself, and I’m not sure if they can service/recert other makes/models. Because Wine Country is local and can recertify for a somewhat reasonable price, I will likely be buying this system from them in the event RMVR ends up requiring recertification in the long run and because the FIA bottle will last me four more years over an SFI system: Lifeline Zero 360 FIA 2.25kg Zero FK Fire Marshal Fire Suppression Sys – Wine Country Motor Sports

So to follow up on this; I swapped email with Tom @winecountrymotorsports (Englewood) and he said that yes they service thier Lifeline FK systems. Current costs are $145-190 depending on materials/system. So that’s the direction I’m heading on fire suppression. Thanks for the discussion guys.

Hi Frank @frankj, thanks for contacting Wine Country and updating us on their services and pricing. I appreciate it.

Just a follow on to previous discussion. I’m in the process of installing a new Lifeline Zero 360 FIA 2.25kg Zero FK Fire Marshal system in my FF. I was slightly surprised how compact this is so thought I would share a couple pictures for those considering it. This is in comparison to a 5lb Halon system that was in my car, which I discovered was empty! (read thread don’t trust appearances )
